Description
The purpose of this special notice is to look for sources. The U.S.Fish & Wildlife, Region Seven (7), Alaska has a need for a firm-fixed price purchase for stable isotope analysis of feathers and tissues of four (4) different shorebirds species. Work description:Analyze feather and tissue samples from four species of shorebirds collected at Chickaloon Flats on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Samples from up to 150 birds including Greater yellowlegs, Lesser yellowlegs, Spotted sandpiper, Pectoral sandpiper, and short-billed and long-billed dowitchers will be analyzed. Samples from each bird may include primaries, other feathers, and blood (red blood count, plasma). All samples will be frozen and sent to the contractor where multi-stable isotope analysis (hydrogen D, carbon 13C, and nitrogen 15N isotopes) will be measured. Feathers will be cleaned in a 2:1 chloroform:methanol solution and air-dried. Only the tip of the feather vane will be analyzed, excluding the rachis (Wassenaar and Hobson 2006). For ?15N and ?13C analyses, approximately 1 mg of feather will be weighed into tin capsules and analyzed using standard continuous-flow isotope-ratio mass spectrometry techniques. The contractor will provide an electronic summary (Excel spreadsheet) of the C and N isotope values (per mill) upon completion of the analyses. All laboratory analysis and reporting are to be completed within 6 months of receipt of samples. We plan to analyze 370 D20 samples and 828 C/N samples. NOTE TO INTERESTED VENDORS:Any vendors that are interested in and have preformed the above mentioned statement of work contact Amanda Jordan at 907-786-3436 or amanda_jordan@fws.gov.
