Description
Washington River protection Solutions (WRPS) as a prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy is seeking businesses to design, fabricate, and operate in a cold demonstration mode, a remote sampling prototype for the purpose of certifying High Level Waste (HLW) slurry. Hanford's million gallon Double Shell Tanks (DSTs) will be staged with HLW solids and liquid supernate for delivery to the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP). Prior to delivery to the WTP the HLW must be sampled and characterized to demonstrate compliance with the WTP waste acceptance criteria. The baseline concept for this waste sampling is to circulate the mixed DST contents through a waste certification system with the ability to measure the critical velocity and collect representative samples of the HLW slurry. This solicitation is intended to understand existing capability to design, construct, and demonstrate functionality of the system in a non-radioactive and non-hazardous environment using a series of HLW simulants that represent the spectrum of physical properties expected for HLW feed to the WTP over the course of the Hanford tank waste treatment mission. This is not a request for proposal, but a request for an expression of interest. Expression of interest letters must be received via email at Tess_A_Klatt@rl.gov or by fax at (509) 376-0825 no later than Thursday, September 30, 2010. Expression of interest responses should be limited to less than ten pages of information.
