- Description
- Statement of Work Notice of Intent to Sole Source The Food and Drug Administration intends to award a sole source purchase to Becton, Dickson and Company. This is NOT a request for competitive quotes. The Purchase Order will be made on a sole source basis in accordance with FAR Part 13 - Simplified Acquisition Procedures, 13.106 and Part 12. Description of Acquisition: Upgrade to current FACS Aria II Flow Cytometer System Addition of third laser (violet). The BD FACS Aria II flow cytometer is currently being used by all the researchers in the Immunobiology Branch (IB) listed above, and also some outside the IB. Using various animal models, the majority of researchers are interested in immune response to certain treatments: either exposure to food pathogens or allergens, or perhaps, a specific diet in conjunction with exposure to a particular food allergen or pathogen. After exposure, cells are isolated from various animal organs and labeled using fluorescent dyes that are directly linked to antibodies (cell markers) in hopes of detecting specific immune cell types and/or activation of a range of immune system pathways. These labeled cells are then run on the flow cytometer and analyzed (or sorted) using two lasers, blue and red. Two lasers provide an adequate range with which to analyze and capture data. However, adding a third laser (violet) gives the researchers a chance to increase the number and types of dyes used, and thus enhance their ability to look at additional immune system components and/or responses, essentially allowing them to cast a wider net when designing and implementing certain immunological studies. Vendors must be registered in the Central Contractor Register (CCR) prior to the award of a contract. You may register by going to www.ccr.gov.
