Description The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Epidemiology & Genetics (DCEG), Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) plans to procure the services for the study, "Uncertainties in the Age-Dependent Organ Doses from Pediatric CT Imaging. This acquisition will be processed in accordance with simplified acquisition procedures as stated in FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1). The North American Industry Classification System Code is 541380 and the business size standard is $12.0 M. Only one award will be made as a result of this pre-solicitation. Period of performance shall be for twelve months from date of award. The contractor shall assess organ-specific radiation doses received from CT scans. Radiation doses shall be calculated for a number of organs and for a number of ICRP-compliant children of various ages as well as for adult males and females. The dosimetry results shall be validated by means of experiments. Contractor Requirements: The contractor must have developed at least twelve reference NURBS phantoms of children of various ages and of adult males and females, and have an internationally-recognized experience in the assessment of radiation doses using both NURBS phantoms and physical phantoms. The contractor must have access to a Siemens 16-slice CT scanner and to at least one physical phantom of a baby and one physical phantom of an adult, and have at least five years of experience in conducting measurements of radiation doses using at least 50 radiation detectors placed in locations inside the physical phantoms that allow for a validation of the doses calculated using NURBS phantoms. The contractor shall perform the following tasks: 1.Experimental validation of internal organ dose assessment shall be performed through combinations of in-phantom dosimeter measurements and Monte Carlo simulations; 2.Improvement & extension of the dosimetry software.
