- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space FlightCenter (GSFC)is releasing a Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN), on August 20, 2010 forthe Goddard Earth Sciences Technology And Research (GESTAR) Studies and Investigations. GESTAR studies and Investigations will conduct research collaboratively with GoddardsScience and Exploration Directorate (Code 610). It is anticipated that the relativeemphasis of research activities will evolve as a function of priorities of fundingopportunities.The participating components of Code 610 are in the Laboratory forAtmospheres, the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Science Laboratory, the Global Modeling andAssimilation Office, and the Software Integration and Visualization Office. Under this agreement GSFC and external scientists assigned to GESTAR will cooperativelycarry out experimental, analytical, and theoretical research in support of NASAsstrategic earth science objectives relating to:(a) Research on all aspects of the Earth system-the atmosphere, the biosphere, theoceans, the solid earth; (b) Information and computational sciences addressing the unique needs of data systemsand outreach for the Earth Sciences; and(c) The technology that is required to achieve the scientific challenges and theeconomic affordability of the Planetary Sciences.Specific scientific areas addressed include:(a)Atmospheric Aerosols (b)Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems(c)Climate Modeling and Analysis (d)Oceanography(e)Terrestrial Water Cycle(f)Weather and Short-term Climate(g)Earth Rotational and Gravitational Dynamics(h)Planetary Analog Studies(i)Sun-Earth Connection StudiesParticipation is open to educational institutions and nonprofit organizations.Electronically submitted Notices of Intent to propose are requested.Proposal due date is on or about November 1, 2010.
