- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires cots to be utilized by bariatric and wheelchair dependent disaster victims in evacuation centers. FEMA is considering the following specifications: - Anticipated users include seniors, individuals who weigh a minimum of 350 lbs, and individuals with mobility impairment; - Strong, durable frame and latches; - Welded parts maintain under pressure; - Height: 19" with mattress; - Width: 27"-36" (32" preferred) - Length: 76"-80" (80" preferred) - Ability to sanitize frame and mattress materials; - Rounded corners and edges (no hazardous edges); - Fitted connections (slots and inserts); - Tip-over protection built to accommodate wheelchair transfers without the cot turning during the process; - Easily removable handrails; - Adjustable head of cot; - Foam egg crate mattress of 2" thickness; and - Disposable, durable mattress cover. The following questions are put forward to interested parties: 1. Please specify the type of organization responding to the questions (i.e. small business, large business, industry association,...) If a small business, please specify all Small Business Administration socioeconomic programs under which your organization qualifies. 2. Does your organization have a product available that meets all the specifications above? If the answer is "Yes:" What is the country of origin? If the answer is "No:" (a) Can your organization produce such a product? (b) What would be the product lead time? (c) What country are the manufacturing plants located? 3. What is the industry standard for the average bariatric user? 4. What is the industry standard for the average wheelchair dependent user? Interested parties may submit answers to these questions to Aleta Dust at aleta.dust@dhs.gov until 4:30pm 1 October 2010. Vendors may also provide brochures, web links, or other literature about their cots available for the specified users. Responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. Vendors are encouraged to ask the Government questions regarding this potential requirement. Questions must be submitted in writing to Aleta Dust at aleta.dust@dhs.gov until 4:30pm 10 September 2010 to be answered.
