- Description
- The Department of State initiated the Weapons of Mass Destruction Countermeasures Division (DS/SPC/WMD) and assigned it the responsibility for training and equipping all Overseas Posts. A domestic training program was also initiated. The WMD Countermeasures Division provides training and equipment to all personnel falling under the authority of a Chief of Mission in order to aid them in surviving a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) attack. In addition, WMD surveys are conducted to identify post vulnerabilities and potential decontamination sites. DS/SPC/WMD requires the following Powered Air Purifying Respirators meeting the following requirements for a potential purchase: 1) The Product must be certified as an approved (Cap 1 or Cap 2) Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) PAPR by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH); 2) The PAPR must incorporate a loose fitting one size fits all butyl rubber hood with a wide field of view. The hood must be adjustable to fit varying head sizes comfortably; 3) The PAPR must be configured for wear by either belt or backpack mount; 4) Each unit must include a storage bag to contain and protect unit when not in use. 5) Each unit must include 2 (each) NiMH Battery packs with the appropriate chargers; 6) An airflow test gauge must be included with each system; and 7) Must include 3 CBRN filter canisters, canisters must be the correct part as certified by NIOSH.
