Background Information for the Event: The changing dynamic for Veterans in the 21st century mandates that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) accomplish its myriad of missions more effectively and efficiently. Delivering the right services at the right time to this growing and changing population of Veterans will require cutting-edge information technology, innovative and improved acquisition processes, a far-reaching transformation of the VA workforce, and end-to-end innovations in management. VA recognizes that our supplier community is a critical component to our success in meeting the challenges of supporting Veterans in the 21st century. In an effort to improve our acquisition process, establish better and more transparent communication with our supplier partners, and increase VA access to industry best of breed thought and innovation, the VA has embarked on a transformation of the end-to-end acquisition process that will capitalize on this industry expertise. VA's first step to building this enhanced relationship and improving communication with suppliers began on August 13, 2009 at the VA Supplier Relationship Transformation Forum in Arlington, VA. VA hosted 140 representatives from over 90 companies representing every material and service provided to the VA. The VA listened and heard a number of critical issues and concerns relating to VA acquisition processes. VA would like to hear from suppliers who were not able to attend the August 2009 Forum due to its location. VA will hold a regional Supplier Relationship Transformation Forum in New Brunswick, NJ on August 12, 2010 to gain feedback about the acquisition lifecycle, VA's use of contract types and concerns and impacts of unclear solicitation requirements.
