- Description
- Recovery NASA LaRC awarded a fixed-price contract to LMI entitledNextGen-Airportal Project Technologies: Systems Analysis, Integration, and EvaluationThis competitive action will be funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act(ARRA). The award results from a competitive selection under the National Aeronautics andSpace Administration (NASA) Headquarters released NASA Research Announcement (NRA) forfoundational research in support of the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD),entitled 'Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2009 under NNH09ZEA001N, Amendment1, NextGen Airportal Project. The NextGen-Airportal Project works in closecollaboration with the NextGen-Airspace Project to conduct airspace and Airportalfoundational research and discipline-based technology. The project focuses on NASAstechnical expertise and world-class facilities to enable the highest possible efficiencyin the use of gates, taxiways, runways, metroplex (a group of two or more adjacentairports whose arrival and departure operations are highly interdependent) airspace andother Airportal resources. The project will focus NASAs technical expertise and world-class facilities to address the constraints to achieving the NGATS capacity, efficiency, and environmental goals at the nations airports and associated terminal/metroplexairspace. The project performance objectives include the use of 4-D trajectories(aircraft path from block-to-block, including the path along the ground) to plan andexecute system-wide operations; integrating 4-D trajectory operations with safe, optimized surface and terminal area traffic operations. The project research activitieswill focus on optimization of surface traffic, dynamic airport configuration management, advanced technologies to detect and avoid wake vortex hazards, new procedures forremoving current constraints to safe, closely spaced and converging approaches in adverseweather conditions, and modeling simulation and experimental validation research focusedon single and multiple regional airports. The objective of this effort is to analyze thepotential benefits of NASAs Airspace Systems Program (ASP) Concepts and Technologies(C&Ts) within the constraints of the Nextgen- Airspace domain to include and emphasizeterminal airspace operations, specifically enroute and transition to and from airportterminal area operations. By cataloging the C&Ts, Identifying how the C&Ts createbenefits, determining appropriate evaluation metrics, performing concept benefitevaluation using modeling and simulation tools, assessing benefits and estimatingstakeholder costs. This contract includes a base and option year (exercised at time ofaward.) Year 1 which is ARRA funded is $786,228.00. Option year which is not ARRAfunded is $734,787.00, for a total awarded amount of $1,521,015.00.
