- Description
- DESCRIPTION: the VA Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System intends to negotiate a commercial (FAR Part 12) contract to comply with the attached scope of work. This procurement is to obtain a contract for the purpose installing eyewash and deluge shower and mixing valves at the VA Omaha location. The following is the Statement of Work we are requesting this contractor to complete for us. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: VA NWIHCS seeks a contract for a Contractor to provide all related piping and materials except for the eyewash fixtures, deluge shower fixtures, and mixing valves. Water tubing to be type L copper, soft soldered connections. Waste piping to be no hub cast iron, and acid waste in the research facility. Fusion welded connections. Temperature and water pressure gauges and regulators required at each mixing valve outlet. Wall penetration must be properly fire caulked, water piping to be installed and properly labeled with the respective to the pipe insulated. Contractor will provide fire extinguisher and obtain burn hot work permits for each area work is performed. No hot work shall be permitted without obtaining an all clear from safety as to smoke detectors and heat detectors as to not have false alarms. Contractor will trace lines to find isolation valves and obtain permission from engineering before closing any water valves or cutting into any waste or drain lines. Some work may have to be accomplished during weekend or night hours if water cannot be shut off during business hours. This will need to be coordinated with engineering and respective departments affected in advance. Work areas to be cleaned up at end of work day and kept clear of debris. Dust and noise will be kept as low as possible. HEPA filters may be required in certain areas. Other areas may require special precautions to prevent disease spread and will be up to Department managers in some areas. If the contractor can safely freeze some water lines to prevent widespread shut down of water this can be discussed as an option on this entire project on a case by case basis. Check with engineering. VA hospital plumbers will assist in locating valves as time permits, but contractor will need to trace lines as best as they can before asking for VA employee assistance. If isolation valves aren ™t available or inoperable this will have to be discussed with engineering before any changes can be made. Research building has all new isolation valves throughout the facility. This should not be an issue in that building. Increases to this contract will only be authorized by the contracting officer. All proposals received by 4:00 P.M. Central Time, July 19, 2010 will be considered by the Government. Contractors will provide contract terms. Inquiries will only be accepted in writing by email at lee.reiff@va.gov.
