Description
RECOVERY - This action is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. Task 092-R is a research and development effort sponsored by NASAs AeronauticsResearch Mission Directorate and the Airspace Systems Program. Research funded by the Recovery Act within the Airspace Systems Program focuses ondeveloping innovative tools, methods, concepts and technologies that will improve theefficiency attributes of current and future aviation operations. The Airspace SystemsProgram conducts cutting-edge research that will expand the capacity of the NationalAirspace System to benefit the U.S. economy and Americans mobility. In order to meet thegrowing demand for air transportation, and thereby foster the continued growth of oureconomy, the capacity of the airspace system must be dramatically expanded. The focus of this task is to derive and document functional requirements for NASAsTrajectory-Based Automation System for Enroute & Transition Airspace. This prototypesystem represents the evolution of 20 years of NASA research in ground-based air trafficmanagement. It is expected to expand the capacity of the National Airspace System andimprove the efficiency of air traffic operations by assisting air traffic controllers indetecting and resolving air traffic conflicts and by identifying more efficient routesfor aircraft already en route to their destination. This award notice is for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. The task order was issued under anexisting Cost-Plus-Award-Fee contract, NAS2-03144, which was made on a competitive basis.Due to the variability of this research and development work, a Cost-Plus-Award-Fee taskorder was determined appropriate.
