- Description
- THIS IS FOR MARKET RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY, NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL OR SOLICITATION. The Food and Drug Administration, Jefferson Laboratories, in Jefferson, Arkansas, is seeking small business sources, including, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, woman-owned small business and 8(a) certified companies. The government would also like large businesses capable of meeting this requirement to respond as well. The following information is provided to assist the FDA in conducting Market Research to identify potential contractors for this effort. The government is seeking sources capable of providing a computerized stereology investigation system plus apparatus for performing brain mapping, neuron tracing, anatomical mapping, and morphometry. The system to include stereo investigator microscope, computer and software/hardware. The government is requesting information from potential contractors that have a system similar to that of MBF Bioscience Neurolucide and Stereo Investigator microscope. The system should be capable of performing design-based stereology on isotropic or vertical (anisotropic) sections. The vendor must provide the installation, training and warranty. The system will be used to support studies involving research into sexual hormone-like compounds extensively exist in nature foods and/or food-processing chains and render physiology-interfering or pathophysiological impacts on human central nervous system, noticeably the sexual dimorphic brain structures. The current method in evaluation of the compounds in neurotoxicity, determination of changes in size of the sexual dimorphic brain structures of the experimental animals, is single-disciplinary approaching (anatomic or developmental neurobiological) and thus less sensitive, indicating the unmet need for general public safety screening of sexual hormone-like compounds. Our objective is to establish a multidisciplinary approach in assessing those compounds. We will investigate the brain structures by conventional histology, immunohistochemistry and projection-tracing marker(s), which simultaneously addresses morphological and biochemical bases and functional connection as well. Stereology is the state of the art technology that provides quantitative measurements necessary for the proposed tasks. MBF system components are as follows: A NL-15 Neurolucida - microscope based scientific research software 1)-3D Neuron Tracing and Reconstruction • -3D Serial Section Reconstruction • -Brain Mapping and Anatomical Mapping • -Quantitative Morphometric Analysis • -Image Analysis • -Particle Counting • -Create high resolution, publication quality 3D models • -Direct export of results to Microsoft Excel 2) SS-15 Stereo Investigator - advanced software for Design Based Stereology • -Automated workflows for Optical Fractionator • -Automated workflows to acquire multi-channel fluorescent 3D image stacks with systematic random sampling for offline analysis • -Automatic Contour Tracing • -Serial Section Manager • -2D Anatomical Mapping • -Automatic exportation of data and results to Microsoft Excel 3) NS-21 Image Stack Extension Module • -Capacity to analyze confocal brightfield and widefield fluorescence 3D image stacks.
