Description
The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Salem, Virginia is seeking potential sources capable of providing local Landscape Architectural Services for Therapeutic Garden Design at the VAMC Salem, 1970 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, VA 24153. This requirement shall be performed by certified, trained and licensed Landscape Designer using the principles of Evidence Based Design. VAMC staff will specify the desired outcome and features of the garden to best benefit inpatient and outpatient therapeutic needs, enhance facility and all medical groups' usage. The 1.75 acre garden will include, but not limited to an area where patients can garden, grow flowers and vegetables, fruit trees (allowing the harvest of produce) and various bushes planted. The garden will include natural features that stimulate conversation and interest, such as fragrant flowers, water features, plantings to attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife. A restorative area with a waterfall and sitting areas for socializing. Shade structures will provide sitting areas for socializing. The design will provide opportunities for exercise such as walking paths, inclines, steps, and raised beds with wheelchair accessible planting areas. Plant materials will be non-toxic and provide opportunities for sensory stimulation. This requirement will be incorporating GEMS initiatives (Green Environment Management System) in the garden with an energy efficient green house. The landscape architect contractor will provide schematic design, site plan, cost estimate, planting concept plan, landscape details, list of plants and garden elements, construction documents, and site visits to accomplish the design process and assist with the construction process. The period of performance is from July 01, 2010 (or date of award) through July 31, 2010. The applicable NAICS Code is 541320 / Landscape Architectural Services / size standard $7.0Mil. No formal solicitation document exists at this time. Responses to this sources sought notice should include the following: name and address of company; business size (large or small); identify whether or not firm falls into any of the following socioeconomic categories - 8(a), HUBZone, Service Disabled Veteran-Owned; firm's experience in providing Therapeutic Garden Design Services within the VAMC in a professional setting and any other pertinent information, which demonstrates ability to meet the above requirement.
