- Description
- Recovery This notice is provided for information purposes only. NASA LaRCawarded a fixed priced contract to George Mason University entitled MetroplexOptimization Model Expansion and Analysis. This award results from a competitiveselection under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquartersreleased NASA Research Announcement (NRA) for foundational research in support of theAeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD), entitled 'Research Opportunities inAeronautics (ROA) 2009 under NNH09ZEA001N, Amendment 1, NextGen Airportal Project(APIR). Under this contract, George Mason University will expand existing modeling andoptimization capabilities in order to be able to predict changes in scheduling patternsand throughput (the number of arriving and departing passengers/aircraft) at majorMetroplex (a group of two or more adjacent airports whose arrival and departureoperations are highly interdependent) airports when there are changes in costs, passengerdemand, and competition. This award is consistent with NASA's continuing investment indeveloping revolutionary concepts and technologies, and is responsive to congressionaldirection to conduct research on technologies that will significantly increase thecapacity, efficiency and reliability of our National Airspace System. The contract isfunded in its entirety by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA).
