Description
CURRENTLY AN AMENDMENT IS BEING PREPARED FOR THIS PROCUREMENT. IT WILL PUBLISHED BETWEEN 06/11 AND 06/14/10. BECAUSE OF THE TIME FOR PREPARATION AND POSTING, AND TO GIVE OFFERORS A FULL WEEK TO CONSIDER THE AMENDMENT, THE DUE DATE FOR OFFERS WILL BE EXTENDED BY 7 DAYS TO 06/25/10. The government anticipates awarding a 5-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quality contract for the services specified. Offers shall be submitted for the difficulty levels listed below. Introduction The government is acquiring fuels management services by use of mechanical equipment to treat vegetation to reduce the risk of wildland fires, enhance ecosystems and improve wildlife habitat. Background The purpose of this contract is to secure mechanical treatment services to create and maintain fuelbreaks, and to be used for forest health activities on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Vegetation types and terrain differ from around the forest which may include reforestation areas, natural and managed stands of timber of all ages, size and species, and shrub fields. Vegetation to be treated will require cutting, chipping, shredding and mulching. The treatment will reduce ladder fuels and rearrange natural vegetation to a state that will burn with reduced fire intensity during a wildfire event. Firefighter safety will be improved as well as a reduced threat to the public and private property. The work shall be done in a manner that does not damage vegetation not specified to be treated. Scope of Contract The services in this contract are designed to provide for wildfire hazard reduction, ecosystem enhancement and improve wildlife habitat. Mastication treatments can take place at any point during the year as long as weather, ground conditions and fire conditions allow for. Other fuels reduction activities not priced on the schedule of items are suject to negotiation. The technical point of contract for information on the potential task orders is Steve Howell of the Carson Ranger District. showell@fs.fed.us, Desk: 775-884-8114 Cell: 775-721-2064.
