Description
NASA/JSC has a requirement for use of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)proximity communications system (PROX).NASA/JSC intends to procure JAXA operational support of their PROX system in order tomeet its obligations for International Space Station (ISS) resupply under internationalagreements. The PROX system is an ISS service that is available for commercial visitingvehicles. The JAXA PROX system will be used to support the rendezvous and berthing of acommercial Visiting Vehicles (VV) to the ISS which will supply needed cargo to the ISSand provide disposal for trash. The PROX system is partially located in the Japanese Kibo module on the ISS, and isoperated via JAXAs Space Station Integration and Control Center (SSIPC) in Tsukuba,Japan. When the VV approaches close to the ISS, the PROX antenna will initiatecommunications with the portion of the PROX system components located on the VV. TheISS's orbital location and speed will be immediately relayed to the VV through the PROXantenna in the Kibo module. In addition, the PROX system will relay commands to the VVand will provide telemetry from the VV.The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
