National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), Confocal Microscopy Core Facility, plans to procure on a sole source basis the brand name Carl Zeiss LSM Axiovert upgrade from 100M to the Axio Observer Z1 Microscope to include: 1) LSM Control Computer upgrade, 2) Software upgrade, 3) ZEN upgrade to 2009 – 32bit, 4)X-CITE 120Q 3M IRIS FL LIGHT, and 5) installation with Carl Zeiss Microimaging, One Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY, 10594. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code for this procurement is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. This acquisition will be processed in accordance with simplified acquisition procedures as stated in FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1). Delivery shall be in 45 days upon receipt of purchase order. Only one award will be made as a result of this solicitation. This will be awarded as a firm fixed price type contract. The CCR Confocal Microscopy Core Facility was established by the NCI Laboratory of Experimental Carcinogenesis in September 1997. The core facility provides state-of-the-art confocal microscopy and digital imaging to CCR investigators to perform high quality clinical and translational research in cancer biology and to train students, residents, and fellows in the field of confocal microscopy. The core facility also provides services and opportunities for collaborative research to investigators throughout the NCI as well as other NIH Institutes and FDA. The purpose of this acquisition is to procure and install a Carl Zeiss LSM Axio Observer Z1 Microscope upgrade for the existing Zeiss LSM 510 confocal system for the specific purpose of imaging fixed/live cells, organs and tissues to determine the localization and translocation of proteins involved in carcinogenesis as well as novel compounds/drugs for treatment. Carl Zeiss MicroImaging is the sole source for the Axio Observer Z1 Microscope and Computer/Software Upgrade designed and tested for the Zeiss LSM 510 confocal system that was installed in the Confocal Core Facility in 2000. The original Axiovert 100M microscope, computer and software on this system has become obsolete and must be replaced in order to keep this system up to date and the service contract in place. The salient characteristics that apply to the Carl Zeiss Axio Observer Z1 Microscope upgrade are: 1. TFT Touch screen to visualize present working conditions on the microscope. 2. Docking Station for TFT Touch screen with Z-Focus control and x,y guide control of motorized Can-Bus stage allows for convenient placement of microscope control away from the microscope. 3. Ergonomically and convenient placement of functional buttons around the focus knob allows for easy access. 4. Motorized Z-focus with a step size of 10nm. 5. Patented water deflection/collection system to better fit motorized and manual nosepieces in order to protect them from spills. 6. Lightmanager to automatically select the preset optimal light intensity per objective. 7. Contrastmanager to automatically select the preset optimal contrast conditions per objective. 8. Thermally isolated objectives to sustain the selected temperature. 9. Long-working distance Objectives for maximal accessibility to all culture dishes 10. DIC with a MgF2 plate to ensure homogeneity and precise pixel recognition in Fluorescence and DIC (no pixel shift). 11. LD condenser 0.35NA with the ability to do DIC. 12. 3 position Optovar with the magnification of 1.25x. 13. Apochromatic correction where red, green and blue all image in the same plane. 14. 6x Reflector turret motorized, with 200ms switching time. 15. “Push&Click” Fluorescent cubes without taking the whole revolver out allows for maximum and fast flexibility in Fluorescence experiments. 16. Improved Adjusting Aid to easily and quickly align the conventional Fluorescent lamp. 17. Self-Aligning HBO for fast and efficient continuation of scientific work. 18. Motorized Fluorescence Beampath with the ability to control attenuation of light and contrast in Fluorescence. 19. High-Speed Internal (standard feature) or Higher-Speed external Shutter (optional feature) allows for rapid control in Fluorescence experiments. 20. Fixed Stage Microscope with at least 4 position manual encoded Objective turret. 21. Must include transmitted light path. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow the NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement.
