Description
This is a Request For Information (RFI) in regards to a NAVAIR requirement for a modified, commercially available lathe intended for overhauling components for the U.S. Navy. NAVAIR Lakehurst, NJ seeks potential sources and no cost product information of commercially available lathes. This RFI is for planning purposes and information only and should not be construed as a solicitation for applications or an obligation on the part of the government. The government will not pay for the preparation of any information submitted or for the government’s use of that information. Background The lathe shall be used to overhaul components for Navy applications with a minimum length of 50”. The lathe shall be a new, commercially available model. A commercially available model is defined as the Contractor’s model which, on the date this solicitation is issued, has been designed, engineered, sold, or is being offered for sale through advertisements or the Contractor’s published catalogue or brochures. Products such as a prototype unit, pre-production model, or experimental unit do not qualify as meeting the requirements specified herein. However, the Government will consider changes to an existing commercially available product design that may improve the efficiency, accuracy, or productivity of the machine or decrease its operational costs. The lathe shall be capable of cutting 6.6" diameters up to the shoulders on both sides of 20" large diameter part in one set-up. The lathe shall have a minimum of a 6.5” bar capacity and a 20” minimum turning diameter over the cross slide. The lathe shall have a heavy-duty box way type and be capable of having a rotating chuck; adjustable for run-out capability at tailstock. Information Requested Information in the following areas will assist NAVAIR Lakehurst in the development of its procurement strategy. Qualified vendors should provide the following: Product Literature: Brochures, catalogs, or other documents listing commercially available lathes; Detailed product descriptions of their lathe; Foundation drawings and requirements for their lathe; Procurement history with their lathe; Long-Term Reliability and maintainability data; including the expected life (in years); Product drawings and photographs of their lathe. Typical production plans and installation timeframes. ** It is preferred that all measurements be stated in US Standard units.
