- Description
- RECOVERY - GSFC Data Management System. The goal of this project is to develop aData Management System for the NASA Center for Computational Sciences that provides adata grid approach to integrated, next-generation Earth science data services for NASA. A data grid is software that allows for the management, sharing, searching, anddistribution of large amounts of distributed data sets. The NASA Earth Science communitymaintains large quantities of both observation data from satellites and Earth basedobserving platforms (like ocean buoys) as well as model data generated by NASA climateapplications. Data grids are used to share and manage large amounts of geographicallydistributed data. The Data Management System will provide a framework for the integrateddelivery of Earth observational data and climate simulation data from NASA models, thereby broadening the accessibility and usability of currently available data to theclimate science community. <P>NASA GSFC intends to acquire these Cost-plus-award-fee (CPAF) services under agreementwith Computer Sciences Corporationunder a Task Order competitively awarded in 12/07. CPAFwas determined appropriate because the contract is for the performance of research anddevelopment effort, and uncertainties involved in contract performance do not permitcosts to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed-price contract.
