Description The National Cancer Institute (NCI),Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program, plans to procure on a sole source basis the services of Oxford University Press Inc., 2001 Evans Rd., Cary, NC 27513 to publish the special journal issue titled, "Circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D and the Risk of Rarer Cancers: Cohort Consortium Vitamin D Pooling Project of Rarer Cancers" in the American Journal of Epidemiology (AJE). This acquisition will be processed in accordance with simplified acquisition procedures as stated in FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1). The North American Industry Classification System Code is 511120 and the business size standard is 500 employees. Only one award will be made as a result of this solicitation. This will be awarded as a firm fixed price type contract. Period of Performance: Performance shall be for three months from date of award. The purpose of this requirement is to produce a series of articles in a special supplement to disseminate to the larger community of scientists and practitioners on findings from examining the associations between vitamin D concentrations and the development of several types of rarer cancers. This special issue will also include an article on the overall design, methodology and statistical approaches used in the investigation as well as a manuscript detailing the factors correlated with vitamin D status. The primary goal of the publication will be to compile the results of a prospective study looking at the associations between vitamin D status, and the development of seven cancer sites. The results can be applied for the planning and conduct of intervention trials, especially in determining potential risks. The contractor shall conduct peer review of nine paper drafts and publish a special journal issue titled "Circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D and the Risk of Rarer Cancers: Cohort Consortium Vitamin D Pooling Project of Rarer Cancers" in the AJE. The contractor shall publish, copyedit, and distribute copies of the supplement to the journal's subscribers. The American Journal of Epidemiology (AJE) is published by Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford, for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and is sponsored by the Society for Epidemiologic Research. AJE is the premier epidemiological journal devoted to the publication of empirical research findings, methodological developments in the field of epidemiological research and opinion pieces and it publishes worldwide. Research papers and issues with special themes on epidemiology, cancer, prospective studies, methodology, biomarkers, prevention and intervention trials are frequently published in AJE.,. The journal draws upon researchers, public health workers and clinicians with expertise in epidemiological research and who use epidemiological data. In addition, AJE targets both new and experienced scientists and is a very high impact journal for disseminating worldwide the latest controversial findings from epidemiologic studies. Oxford University Press is the only known source capable of reaching a wide audience that encompasses the full spectrum of epidemiology research. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes they can meet the above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished must be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI to determine if it can meet the above unique specifications described herein. An original and one copy of the capability statement must be received in the NCI Office of Acquisitions on or before 11:00 AM EST on May 13, 2010. No electronic capability statements will be accepted (i.e. email or fax), an original and one copy must be sent to the NCI Office of Acquisitions at the address stated above. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
