Description
NASA/GSFC awarded a sub-task to Northrop Grumman TASC to evaluate the suitabilityof next-generation software versioning technologies for the Joint Center for SatelliteData Assimilation and by association various other modeling efforts under NASA'sModeling, Prediction, and Analysis Program. The contractor shall conduct a series ofinterviews with representative stakeholders in NASA model development to determinerepository requirements, constraints on migration to new technologies andlimitations/difficulties of their current approach. To ensure that the full evaluation isdirectly relevant to realistic software management activities, the contractor shall alsoundertake a substantial software management project using Git, which has been enabled byNASA on a local server for these purposes. The contractor shall deliver a written finalreport which provides an in-depth analysis of the costs and benefits of migration tonext-generation distributed versioning technologies. <P>NASA awarded these services under the existing contract that was competitively awarded on10/31/2005. CPAF was determined appropriate because the contract is for the performanceof research and development effort, and uncertainties involved in contract performance donot permit costs to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed-pricecontract.
