- Description
- RECOVERY - NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) has issued a modification toexisting Task Order NNG06HN01D with Northrop Grumman TASC to support the 'Climate in aBox ('CIB') initiative. CIB is intended to simplify the process of distributing NASA'sclimate models and related science analysis tools to investigators. Under the currentmethodology, non-NASA investigators must acquire the softrware and perform animplementation on their local hardware, requiring significant interaction with NASAscientists. By providing a 'turnkey' system the need for such interactions will begreatly reduced. The work under this effort would augment the ongoing development of ascientific workflow tool which will make the configuration and monitoring of climateexperiments less burdensome for new investigators. The contractor shall implement theNASA Experiment Design workflow tool as part of the standard software suite of the CIB.The workflow tool provides a GUI that will allow users to configure, run and monitor CIBmodel execution either from a local machine of directly on the COB system. The workflowtool would also enable the user to seamlessly transition from the CIB system to morecomputationally powerful runs on NASA's High End Computer Systems enabling them to runlarger or much longer duration simulations. The contractor shall also propose a datasystem to support interoperability between the CIB and the High End Computing facilitiesat GSFC.<P>NASA GSFC intends to acquire these Cost-plus-award-fee (CPAF) services under agreementwith Northrop Grumman TASC under a Task Order competitively awarded in 10/05. CPAF wasdetermined appropriate because the contract is for the performance of research anddevelopment effort, and uncertainties involved in contract performance do not permitcosts to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed-price contract.
