Description
FEDERAL CENTER SOUTH BUILDING 12021, SEATTLE WA - ARTIST SERVICES Continuing a legacy of supporting the important contribution artists make to our society, the General Services Administration (GSA) Art in Architecture Program seeks to commission our nation's most talented artists to create publicly-scaled, permanently installed works of art at federally owned buildings and plazas across the country. In this context, GSA announces an opportunity for a site specific artwork in conjunction with the modernization of Building 12021, Federal Center South in Seattle, Washington. For this project, a 1940s timber-framed, single-story warehouse will be updated to meet the future space requirements of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Providing public engineering services during time of both peace and war, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers strengthens the Nation's security, energizes the economy, and reduces risks associated with disaster. This modernization project is a pivotal undertaking in the redevelopment of an industrial campus that will ultimately accommodate a number of other Federal agencies. GSA allocates one-half of one percent of the estimated construction costs of new buildings for the commissioning of art. The budget for this project is currently estimated to be $305,000, and one or more artists will be awarded a fixed price contract for the art commission. One or more artists will be awarded a fixed price contract for the art commission. Artists will be evaluated on their ability as evidenced by past work and performance, their professional qualifications, and their ability to complete the work in the required time. The evaluation will also include the media, materials, content and breadth of previous work. The scope of services for this commission will require at a minimum: collaboration with the lead designer selected for the building project, development of a preliminary and final concept; fabrication of the artwork; participation in meetings and conservation reviews as necessary; and the installation of the artwork at the project site. Artists with the capability to perform the services described in this synopsis and who wish to be considered for this and future GSA commissions must submit examples of their existing body of work to GSA's National Artists Registry (Registry). The Registry constitutes the qualified list of Artists for this commission. Information on joining the Registry is available at: www.gsa.gov/artinarchitecture Artists pursuing this commission must ensure that their materials are received by the Registry by 3:00 PM Eastern Time on April 26, 2010. Artists who submit after stated deadline will not be eligible for this project, but will be considered on future art commissions alongside other artists on the Registry. Artists already on the registry need not resubmit, but may elect to update their information prior to the deadline. This Art in Architecture opportunity is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and is subject to ARRA reporting requirements.
