CONSTRUCTION OF BAT-ACCESSIBLE GATE At STATE OF TEXAS MINE FEATURES #93-003, 93-004, and 93-005 located within CORONADO NATIONAL MEMORIAL Abandoned mine lands (AML) are typically defined as any physical feature previously used for the extraction of minerals for which no responsible party can presently be identified. For purposes here, these are hardrock mining features that include adits and stopes that are adaptively being used as a roosting site by bats. Mine feature #93-003 is a powder cache, and mine features #93-004 and 93-005 are stopes. These three abandoned mine features are all connected at the entrance. As the result of funding made available through the 2009 enactment of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the National Park Service (NPS) is undertaking this AML closure project aimed at improving human health and safety at these AML sites. The abandoned mine features are being mitigated through the construction of a bat-accessible gate.
