- Description
- THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR 2 HIGHSPEED 5 AXIS MILLING CENTERS. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in theirquote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a writtenamendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to provide responses to the following questions thatwere received in response to the solicitation.Question #1:Regarding Machine #1 - Upon initial examination, it looks like the RFQ was closely orcompletely specd around the MIKRON HPM 800U with regard to Control, X axis travel, Yaxis travel, Z axis travel, Table Diameter, Table Load, Spindle Horsepower, SpindleTorque, Spindle Taper, Rapid Traverse Rate, Magazine size, Program Memory, Heidenan iTNC530 and almost every other detail. Regarding Machine #2 - Upon initial examination, itlooks like the RFQ was closely or completely spec'd around the MIKRON HPM 1350U withregard to Control, X axis travel, Y axis travel, Z axis travel, Table Diameter, TableLoad, Spindle Horsepower, Spindle Torque, Spindle Taper, Rapid Traverse Rate, Magazinesize, Program Memory, Heidenan iTNC 530 and almost every other detail. Are these theactual machines of choice? Response to Question #1:The specifications are based on several requirements; some of the most critical are thesite requirements which are some of the primary drivers on this solicitation. The minimumspecifications for the machines are based on information obtained from our fair marketresearch of several major manufacturers of which Mikron is one. The requirement for theHeidenhein control is based on our use of the control on existing machines in thefacility and the fact that we have spent considerable time and expense in training ourworkforce to use that specific control. We will evaluate any and all machines that meetor exceed the requirements listed and give them fair and equal consideration towards arecommendation for award.Question #2:This solicitation has a specific manufacturer requirement for the CNC (Heidenhain)although no manufacturer for the machine is specified. Is there a preferred machinemanufacturer?Response to Question #2:The Heidenhein control is mandatory for this requirement. However, there is not preferredmachine manufacturer. The machines submitted must meet or exceed all both technical andnontechnical specifications listed in the Statement of Work in order to be considered. The due date for receipt of offers is not extended.Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASAAcquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on December 28, 2009.
