- Description
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for combustion do not currently havethe predictive capability typically found for non-reacting flows due to the prohibitivelyhigh computational cost incurred when one introduces detailed chemical kinetics. In thisSBIR project, we propose a novel metho, Adaptive Chemistry, to enable such detailedmodeling. This method adapts the reaction mechanism used in CFD to local reactionconditions. Instead of a single comprehensive reaction mechanism throughout thecomputation, smaller, locally valid reduced models are used to accurately capture thechemical kinetics at a smaller cost.
