Description
In addition to the ITAR controlled Specifications, the NRL is making available the following unrestricted specifications for the MIS Slip Ring Assembly and looking for interested sources. Responses to this additional Specification are due no later than 4 PM EST, December 10, 2009. All other sections of the RFI remain closed. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is interested in slip ring; either "separates" (rings and brushes only) or a "capsule" (housed assembly with bearings) for the Microwave Imager Sounder (MIS) instrument. NRL has experience with slip rings that have had similar requirements and performance from the Windsat mission that can be found in the public domain paper "Lessons Learned From The Windsat BAPTA Design and On-Orbit Anomalies", 38 th Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium. The basic functional requirements for the slip ring are that it carry the power and signals in Table 1 and be able to operate in a space environment at 31.6 rpm for a minimum of 7 years with high reliability required for an operational weather satellite. NRL is interested in any relevant design experience/heritage that aligns with the MIS slip ring requirements and is interested in a ROM price and schedule quote ASAP to deliver 1 EDU slip ring No Later Than (NLT) summer 2011, 1 flight slip ring NLT January 2012, 1 flight spare slip ring NLT February 2012TBR and options to build at least one and as many as four more flight unit on 2 year centers thereafter.
