Description
This is a request for information only no contracts will be awarded against this request for information.Introduction: This is a Request for Information (RFI) only and does not constitute a commitment,implied or otherwise, that the National Park Service (NPS) will take procurement action in this matter. Further, neither NPS nor the Government will be responsible for any cost incurred in furnishing this information. This RFI will also serve to conduct market research to identify firms capable of providing such services. No telephone calls requesting a solicitation will be accepted or acknowledged. There is no solicitation available at this time. PURPOSE OF RFI Purpose of RFI: The purpose of this RFI is to gather ideas from industry for (1)Availability of such items in the marketplace.Background: The National Park Service possibly in the future will have a need for self propelled portable tracked chippers. The National Park Service operates in remote places. The tracked chipper will be utilized where wheeled chippers would adversely affect the soils and terrain surfaces, whereas a tracked vehicle will lessen the impact on the environment. Tracked Chipper RequirementsGeneral"Weight: 3000 lbs (max) fully assembled and fueled for operation"Overall - Length: 144" (max) with feed chute in operational position" - Width: 84" allowable when tracks may extend for stability or slope." - Height: 96" (max) with discharge up for normal operation"Body - Length: 108" (max) in transport configuration" - Width: 48" (max) in transport configuration" - Height: 72" (max) in transport configurationEngine "Horsepower: 28 hp (min)"Cooling medium: Water"Fuel type: Diesel Capacities"Fuel tank: minimum for 6 hours of continuous operation under normal useCutting System"Drum or disk blade systemFeed/Discharge System"Infeed capacity: 6" stock (min) x 9" (min) for efficiency in feeding brush and branch"Feed style: roller or wheel with hydraulic powerChassis"Track width: 60" (max) when in transport configurationElectrical"12 volt system, negative groundTransport"Self propelled with radio controlled capability and on vehicle controls for safety and convenience while moving and operating the chipper."Ability traverse 30% slope and climb 40% vertical slope Additional information: If the Tracked Chipper meets the majority of required standards, please submit that product literature electronically with noted departure from above requirements.THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY; THIS IS NOT A PRE-SOLICITATION NOTICE. ANY SOLICITATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE. NO OFFERS ARE REQUESTED OR WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME. INSTRUCTIONS: Businesses with the capability of providing the required services, as described above, with the necessary resources to fulfill the requirements are invited to submit, on a voluntary basis, in writing, information that addresses the following items: 1. Capability Statement: Identify the business size/designation (e.g., large, small, small disadvantaged, minority owned, 8(a), etc.). The capability statement should contain sufficient information that demonstrates the company's ability to fulfill the above requirements. Responses to this RFI shall not exceed 25 pages, and standard company brochures are not desired. Responses are due no later than 4:00 p.m. MST on Friday November 20, 2009. SUMMARY: NPS appreciates your assistance with this market research and emphasizes that this effort is for planning purposes only. Responses will not be treated as proposals, but may be used to create any subsequent Request for Quote (RFQ). Respondents should clearly mark any proprietary information submitted in response to this RFI.
