Description
The U.S. Army Armament Research and Development Command (ARDEC),located at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, is seeking capabilities statements from firms that can provide technical advancement in developing MagnetoHydrodynamic Explosive Munition (MAHEM) to increase the effective volumetric efficiency and depth of penetration. It is desired to achieve this goal without compromising the ballistic performance to ensure optimal operational effectiveness. This should be achieved via effective usage of 1) Develop Flux Compression Generator (FCG) Design, Modelling and Simulation (M&S) and Engineering designs Static and Dynamic loads). The contractor will design the FCGs components for testing with both a static and dynamic load(s). 2) Investigate and develop Dual Liners: Shaped Charge Liner Design and Modeling. The contractor will examine various parameters to provide maximum penetration into a variety of targets using computational tools to parametrically design the liner and to calculate penetration as a function of liner characteristics and jet properties. The process for MAHEM should be scaleable from 40 mm to 155 mm munitions, and possibly larger calibers, to address multiple service requirements and applications. Demonstrated prior experience/capability(ies) are required. The contractor must have an understanding and working knowledge of FCGs and integrating into various loads. In addition, the contractor must be fluent in the following hydrodynamic codes, to include: CTH, CALE, ALEGRA as well as the electro-materials code COMSOL.
