- Description
- RFI--Radio Frequency Systems for Through-the-Wall Observation The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is committed to using cutting-edge technologies and scientific talent in its quest to make America safer. The DHS Directorate of Science and Technology (S&T) is tasked with researching and organizing the scientific, engineering, and technological resources of the United States and leveraging these existing resources into technological tools to help protect the homeland. DHS S&T's Borders and Maritime Security Division (BMD) supports the DHS mission by developing and transitioning capabilities that are successfully demonstrated to improve the security of our nation's terrestrial and maritime borders. DHS S&T is seeking information on the availability and maturity of existing Radio Frequency (RF) sensor technologies for through-the-wall detection of humans or human activity. There are a number of Ultra Wideband (UWB) devices that have been developed for this application, and information on these systems as well as those in any other applicable frequency bands is sought. The technology sought is expected to be part of a system that will consist of any necessary sensor devices, communications and processing hardware/software, and the capability to display the detection information on a stand-alone computer or integrate it with an existing Graphical User Interface (GUI). It is necessary that the maturity of the system, or the system components, be specifically addressed if the system is not Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS). The primary intent of this Request for Information (RFI) is to explore innovative technologies/RF sensor system that can detect humans or human activity through concrete walls. See attached RFI (Word Document) for details.
