Description
"Recovery" - RML Building 7 Renovation This Project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The magnitude of this project is estimated between $ 1 Million and $5 Million. The Building 7 project, located at the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, MT, consists of the renovation of an existing defunct boiler plant two stories high with a portion of the building a single open bay. The renovation includes demolition and construction of new floor space to infill partial floors and to connect to an adjacent building. The existing floor space is approximately 4,680 ft2, while the renovated floor space will be approximately 7,480 ft2. A significant amount of demolition is required, including removal of 3 boilers with support tanks, piping, and catwalks. There are some existing asbestos containing material and lead based paint. Structural upgrades to meet seismic requirements are included. The Building 7 structure is a combination of steel, concrete and brick, with extensive interior and exterior brick. Existing exterior brickwork will have to be matched for infill. Several central utilities are located in, or pass through Building 7 and these must be kept active during demolition and construction and located in their final locations with only minimal interruptions in service. These services includes, steam, condensate, compressed air, vacuum system, and electrical power. The existing large windows will be replaced. The heating and cooling system will consist of 100% outside air supply air handler units and exhaust fans with building automation system. The building will be fully commissioned and receive LEED certification. The building electrical system will be renovated. The buildings will have fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems. The primary purpose of the building is to serve as research laboratory.
