The Contractor shall provide all labor, supervision; materials and equipment to abate asbestos floor tile, non-asbestos floor tile, and all mastic. Also perform floor preparation, and install Government supplied Terrazzio floor tile and marble wall base. The abatement portion of this scope will be described in an attached portion of this solicitation. The installation will consist of approximately 1134sf of Terrazzio and 3281f of marble base. The Contractor shall be responsible for verifying all installation quantities with the GSA provided floor diagram and the CO. The Terrazzio will be installed in accordance with a Government provided floor diagram and all Terrazzio Installation Guide procedures and specifications. Tile and stone installation and grouting materials shall be supplied by Laticrete International, Inc. Preferred products are Laticrete 254 Platinum Adhesive and Laticrete Spectralock Pro Grout. Government furnished marble wall base shall be installed at all locations where Terrazzio flooring is installed. The Contractor shall be responsible to cut and fit the marble wall base in a like manner to match the existing marble wall base in adjoining areas. Metal thresholds shall be provided and installed by the Contractor where Terrazzio meets existing surfaces. The Contractor shall submit the type and number of thresholds to the CO. Exceptions to this will be in the lobbies where there is existing terrazzo or marble. In these two areas the Contractor shall prepare the surface and install the Terrazzio at the same plane as the existing surface. A pre-bid meeting will be scheduled and is mandatory. ALL DHS CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BEFORE START OF WORK. 02Preparations The Contractor shall be responsible for all floor and wall preparations needed for this installation. It will include wall base surface, wall base adhesives, and any floor surface contamination which will require correction before the work commences. Before installation, surfaces to be covered shall be cleaned to remove curing compounds, sealers, soil, mortar, dirt, dust, etc. Curing compounds or sealers shall be removed by "bead-blasting, "grit/sand blasting or diamond wheel grinder with dustless vacuum attachment, equivalent methods, or mechanical "scarifying." After removal of the curingcompounds or sealers all rough, uneven or "out-of-plumb surfaces shall be made "; plumb and true" to within 1/8 "in 10' and 1/16" in 1' using Laticrete 226 Thick Bed Mortar gauged with Laticrete 3701 Mortar Admix. Transitions to existing terrazzio and VCT shall be made level in accordance with Terrazzio manufacturer procedures. Dry or dusty concrete or masonry surfaces shall be wet down or washed and excess water removed just prior to the application of the adhesive mortar. The installation recommendation of the manufacturer of Terrazzio, when approved by the CO, shall be the basis for acceptance or rejection of actual installation methods used in this work. The Contractor shall have a submittal for installation methods approved by the CO prior to work beginning. The submittal shall include all methods and materials. 03Installation The installation of Terrazzio shall be performed by experienced Journeyman installers completely familiar with the installation recommendation methods of Terrazzio. The thin bed installation method shall be used. The thin bed adhesive shall be applied with a notched trowel using a scraping motion to work the material into good contact with the surface to be covered. A trowel having notches large enough to insure "full bedding" of the tiles is recommended. Only as much adhesive shall be applied as can be covered within 10-15 minutes, or while adhesive surface is still wet and tacky. When installing Terrazzio Large Format Tile a small quantity of the adhesive shall be applied to the back of each tile. Tile shall then be set in place and pressed firmly to insure 100% full bedding and a true surface. Tile shall be aligned to show uniform joints and then allowed to set until firm. Excess adhesive must be cleaned from the surface of the tile with a wet cloth or sponge while the adhesive is fresh. Joints shall be grouted or pointed with Laticrete Spectralock Pro Grout. The Terrazzio grout joints shall be 1/16" in width. The Laticrete SpectralLock grout color shall be number 41 Kashmir. The installation shall be performed using all recommended steps provided by Surface Elements. The Contractor shall be responsible for any door or door frame trimming necessary for this installation. The Contractor shall be responsible for any terrazzo or marble cutting necessary for this installation. The Contractor shall take precautions to protect the finished work from damage by other trades. Do not allow construction traffic on fresh grout joints. 04Workmanship All work shall be coordinated and scheduled with the CO and the CO has the right to reject any unsatisfactory or unsuitable material or workmanship. Any damage caused by the Contractor to the building, any of its contents or tenants shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to correct in a timely manner. All work shall be accomplished in accordance with the best practices of the trade. All work shall be accomplished during tenant non working hours. Areas will be suitable for normal business at the CO's discretion during all Building working hours. 05Safety The Contractor shall provide barriers, covering and any other safety devices to adequately protect pedestrians and property. 06Safety and Health All work shall comply with applicable state and municipal safety and health requirements. Where there is a conflict between applicable regulations, the most stringent will apply. The Contractor shall assume full responsibility and liability for compliance with all applicable regulations pertaining to the health and safety of personnel during the execution of work, and shall hold the Government harmless for any action of its part or that of its employees of subcontractors, which results in illness or death. The Contractor shall provide all necessary safety equipment and ensure that such equipment and all relevant safety procedures are adequate for the job being performed and are utilized properly.
