Description
Provide all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and supervision necessary to complete Project #521-09-124 RENOVATE SURGICAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT at VA Medical Center, 700 South 19th Street, Birmingham, Alabama 35233, in accordance with plans and specifications. Contractor shall completely prepare site for building operations, including demolition and removal of existing finishes. Work includes but is not limited to general construction, alterations, architectural finishes, plumbing work, mechanical work, electrical work, utility systems, removal of existing structures and construction as necessary, and certain other items identified within the contract documents and as indicated on the construction drawings. This project includes five phases and completion time for all five phases is 360 calendar days. Some phases will be constructed concurrently. Phasing schedule for project will be determined upon award of project and coordination with Birmingham VA Medical Center Engineering Service. Individual phases shall be completed in the time designated as indicated in each phase description."Renovate SICU: The objective of this phase is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the patient environment within the SICU. This project includes the repair of damaged gypsum board walls, removal of glass walls between rooms, replacement of ICU room doors, upgrade of patient headwall units, and upgrade of interior finishes. It also includes a reconfiguration of the existing layout to gain an additional office space. Working hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work done outside of this timeframe must be coordinated with the COTR. Painting has to be done after 4:30 p.m. Completion time is 120 calendar days. "Renovate On-call rooms: The objective of this phase is to renovate/update the physician on-call rooms and bathrooms. It also includes the removal of existing fan coil units and showers and the installation of new. It also includes a reconfiguration of the existing layout to gain a physician work room and break room. Working hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work done outside of this timeframe must be coordinated with the COTR. Painting has to be done after 4:30 p.m. Completion time is 120 calendar days. "Renovate GI: The objective of this phase is to renovate the GI lab/procedure rooms to provide improved patient privacy, comfort and flow/operation. This project will consist of a redesign and relocation of administrative offices from prime clinical space. It also includes a reconfiguration of the existing layout to gain two additional procedure rooms and a physician work room. Working hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work done outside of this timeframe must be coordinated with the COTR. Painting has to be done after 4:30 p.m. Completion time is 120 calendar days. "Renovate Clinic, 2B/2C: The objective of this phase is to renovate existing space within the Clinic 2B/2C to provide improved patient privacy, comfort and flow/operation. It includes an upgrade to existing finishes and a reconfiguration of the existing layout to gain an additional restroom, office, and storage room. Working hours will be coordinated with COTR based on availability of space due to the impact on patient care. Painting has to be done after 4:30 p.m. Completion time is 90 calendar days. "Renovate Dumbwaiters: The objective of this project is to replace the outdated/malfunctioning dumbwaiters and cart lifts services between SPD and the OR Suite. Working hours are from 6 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Work done outside of this timeframe must be coordinated with the COTR. Painting has to be done after 4:30 p.m. Completion time is 270 calendar days. ALTERNATE BID NO.1: Provide all work specified in main bid with the exception of Renovate Clinic 2B/2C. Contract completion time is 360 calendar days. ALTERNATE BID NO.2: Provide all work specified in main bid with the exception of Renovate Clinic 2B/2C and Renovate On-call rooms. Contract completion time is 270 calendar days. ALTERNATE BID NO.3: Provide all work specified in main bid with the exception of Renovate Clinic 2B/2C and Renovate Dumbwaiter. Contract completion time is 240 calendar days. ALTERNATE BID NO.4: Provide all work specified in main bid with the exception of Renovate Clinic 2B/2C, Renovate On-call rooms, and Renovate Dumbwaiters. Contract completion time is 240 calendar days. ALTERNATE BID NO.5: Provide all work specified in main bid with the exception of Renovate Clinic 2B/2C, Renovate On-call rooms, Renovate Dumbwaiters, and Remove GI. Contract completion time is 120 calendar days. The estimated dollar value of construction is between $1,000,000.00 and $1,500,000.00. Estimated solicitation issue date is on or about December 2, 2009 with an estimated bid opening date of Jan 6, 2010. Note that these dates are estimates and could be sooner or later. The National American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code is 236220 for this procurement with a size standard of $33.5 million. This solicitation will be a total set aside for service disabled veteran owned small businesses. There will be a pre-bid walk through (site visit) for this project and it is highly recommended that any contractor wishing to bid on this project attend the walk through. The pre-bid walk through time and location will be addressed in the solicitation. There will be no make-up site visits and we will only be holding one site visit. Specifications for this project will be available through www.fbo.gov and drawings will be mailed to prospective bidders upon written request.
