- Description
- The US Army Armament Research and Development Command (ARDEC) BenetLaboratories, located at Watervliet Arsenal, Watervliet New York is seeking capabilities statements from firms that can provide mechanical and electrical engineering support services to the US Governments large caliber cannon programs for the design and development of hardware, interface systems and technical data packages. The current engineering services support Contract W15QKN-08-D-0420 is awarded to Elmhurst Research, Inc. The capabilities sought is for mechanical and electrical engineering support services for Benet Laboratories tasks involving abstract or concept studies, analysis and investigations on large caliber cannon weapons systems. Specific tasks encompass risk analysis, survey, design trade-offs, analytical evaluations of effectiveness, analysis of performance in adverse military environments, applications for advance and beyond state of the art concepts. The below tasks are vital to Benet Laboratories program managers to meet performance and schedule milestones. The following Benet Laboratories programs have ongoing engineering support tasks necessary to meeting program milestone goals by Feb 2010: a.Lightweight 155mm M777 Diode Laser Ignition Program: replace current mechanical primer feed mechanism (known operational issues of mechanical jamming) with Laser Pulse Generator Ignition with integration into the M777 A2 Howitzer. b.Wear and Erosion Support: evaluate and develop an effective protective coating to increase the wear life of the 155mm M777 Lightweight Towed Howitzer gun tube.c.Flow Form Support for Mortar Cannon: develop Flow Form as an alternative manufacturing method (more effective than traditional manufacturing methods) to develop tubular components using nontraditional and difficult materials to machine resulting in the development of 60 mm Flow Form Tubular components manufacturing processes. d.120mm XM360 Cannon: develop a design of new gun systems based on technologies of 120 XM 360 of the MCS for integration into the next generation Abrams tank. Assist PM Abrams with technical challenges and design solutions for integration of the new gun system.e.120mm M191 BiPod: re-engineer 120mm M191 Bipod components to utilize state of the art technologies updating drawings and TDP to current standards and manufacturing processes.f.155mm M777 Full Bore Chrome: perform engineering development with technical analysis and prototype test support for the evaluation and implementation of a chrome plating process for the M776 cannon to improve the life cycle of the LW155 M777 Gun System.g.105 mm M119 Testing: provide test and technical support at the proving grounds to include preparation of test items, on-site monitoring, record keeping of test data.
