- Description
- Sources Sought Notice Title-Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) System Purpose The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC)- Keyport Division is hereby conducting a market survey of potential sources for an Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) System. The procured system will consist of all equipment, controls, safety features, software, manuals, and training required to operate the AOI equipment and shall meet or exceed the functional requirements as outlined henceforth. The equipment shall be used primarily for supporting the fleet by providing process control and quality production of printed circuit boards (PCB) on new and reverse engineered boards. Description PCB's with advanced surface mount packages are becoming more common as well as more complicated with smaller components and higher densities of components. There are several steps in the PCB assembly process. Any inconsistency that occurs during this process may result in a defective product, causing increased costs in both time and money. One way to ensure process control is to manually inspect the product for common defects, but visual inspection may vary between operators and even time of day. Operators can only concentrate well for limited amounts of time and often overlook errors. An AOI system ensures each and every component is checked and highlights only the small number of potential defects, allowing the operator to focus on a few components accurately in a short amount of time. By simplifying the inspection, there is an increase in process control and yields, and a reduction in cost and time for rework. Inspections should be done after each major step in the assembly process to ensure the process is done properly.Functional Requirements
