Description
RECOVERY--PROJECT NUMBER 012350, The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to issue a Request for Proposal for the Repair of a Reduction Gear at the New Bedford/Fairhaven Hurricane Barrier located in New Bedford, MA. Work on this project includes but is not limited to the following: Rebuilding the existing 25hp, 1750 to 1 reduction gear, located on the New Bedford side of the barrier; providing new roller bearings; fabricating new steel bottom end caps; fabricating new steel stuffing box and a new worm gear drive unit. The Contractor will be responsible for disassembling and cleaning the reduction gear unit on site. The gear/ shaft/ bearing assemblies shall be removed from the housing and transported to the Contractors shop. The shop work will include but is not limited to the replacement of all existing roller bearings and minor redressing of gears. The gear/ shaft/ bearing assemblies will then be returned to the site and the entire gear unit shall be re-assembled with new end caps, new stuffing box, new vents, new drains and new worm drive unit. The Contractor will also be responsible for re-aligning the gear with the gate and motor driver. Certain testing and inspection methods will be a required part of this project. All gears will receive a visual and non-destructive magnetic particle inspection to determine gear condition as part of the required shop work. After re-installation, the gear shall undergo a no-load spin test as well as a full load test by running the navigation gate through a complete close/open cycle. This project will be advertised as a lowest priced, technically acceptable Request for Proposal. The estimated construction cost is between $500,000.00 and $1,000,000.00. The NAICS code for this procurement is 238290 with a size standard of $14,000.000.00. This solicitation will be issued on an unrestricted basis. The estimated issue date for this solicitation is on or about November 16, 2009. Interested Offerors can download the solicitation via the Federal Business Opportunities website (www.fbo.gov). The due date for the proposal will be stated in the solicitation. Requests for solicitation documents by telephone, fax or email will not be honored. Instructions for proposal submissions will be provided in the solicitation. All responsible sources may submit a proposal for consideration by the New England District.
