Description
The EVICS system is a control system produced by Hamilton Sundstrand (HS), which operates the compressor inlet guide vanes (IVG) on the F402-RR-408B engine for the AV8B Harrier aircraft. The EVICS System consists of 3 line replaceable units (LRUs): 1) an Integrated Digital Electronic Control (IDEC) which is a digital computer in a small aluminum enclosure, 2) a Hydromechanical Unit (HMU) which contains electrical sensors and torque motors, mechanical components, and an actuator to operate the compressor IGVs, and 3) an air temperature sensing unit (TI Unit) that connects to both the IDEC and to the HMU. Hamilton Sundstrand will provide engineering investigation services to identify root causes of unexplained failures and to identify age related failure modes and mechanisms in support of the reliability centered maintenance program. The contractor will provide material control when Engineering Investigation Hardware is received by the OEM until completion of the investigation and repackaging for shipment or dispositioned for repair, the hardware shall be quarantined under EI material control. The contractor shall consider all the information at its disposal to develop a proposed investigation plan to identify the root cause of the component rejection. The contractor shall execute an investigation plan as well as Engineering Investigation Oversight. The contractor shall provide the government with an investigation report upon full execution and completion of an engineering investigation. The contractor shall provide status reporting and provide deliverables to the government with regards to the engineering investigations being performed.
