- Description
- The purpose of this modification is to: (1) Delete "Specific Focus Areas for 2011" in its entirety and replace with the following which includes dollar amounts and period of performance: Specific Focus Areas for 2011 Trusted Information Sharing Across Domains: Develop an accreditable, automatable multi-domain security policy. The goal of this effort is to demonstrate trustworthy information sharing across multiple (at least three) security domains with changing conditions (in policy, data, and requirements) driving near-real-time changes in configuration. Note: Examples of ‘domains' (as per the CNSSI 4009 definition) include coalitions, sensitivity compartments, communities of interest, levels of classification, and others. White papers for this topic will be due by: 20 November 09. Awards will not exceed 36 months with dollar amounts ranging from $400,000 - $500,000. Cross Domain Identity Management: Maintaining track of who has access to what resources is a non-trivial, but mostly understood challenge within a single domain. When this capability is extended into a cross domain environment, many critical issues immediately arise and make what seems reasonably solvable in a single domain quite thorny. Examples of these issues mostly are either need-to-know issues or covert channels. Need-to-know issues include such things as - What do low-side users need to know about high-side users? Covert channels involve changes in one domain becoming detectable in other, less-privileged domains. White papers for this topic will be due by: 20 November 09. Awards will not exceed 36 months with dollar amounts ranging from $500,000 - $1,000,000. Data Aggregation, Mitigation, and Prevention: A classic concern with automated data handling is the data aggregation issue. Aggregation, in this context, refers to a combination of data generating a classification higher than the high-water-mark of its component parts. This can occur for many reasons, one generic case being the combination of specific information, the method that information was gathered by, and the specific source that was utilized by that method. There are many other examples of aggregation issues, this is just one. Finding automatable methods to assure the prevention of inappropriate release of aggregated information (either minimally in a single instance, or ideally over a configurable period of time) with and via adaptable services is a significant challenge. White papers for this topic will be due by: 20 November 09. Awards will not exceed 36 months with dollar amounts ranging from $500,000 - $1,000,000. All other information remains the same.
