Description
The requirement is for the purchase of EMC storage to maintain the existing Enterprise storage infrastructure and to provide consistent support of this Enterprise Storage environment. Specifically this procurement will support not only the Offices of Economic Analysis, Enforcement, and Information Technology, but Enterprise applications and numerous other small systems effecting the SEC agency wide. The SEC has already approved and purchased multiple EMC storage systems which are in production. The SEC is in the process of deploying additional storage support systems that use EMC equipment as back-end storage. Specifically, EMC is the architecture that is currently supporting SEC production systems and the new procurement is to add equipment within this architecture. EMC storage products are critical to the project and production support. EMC is the manufacturer of the current system and for maintenance and compatibility with the existing system EMC is the only known brand that meets this requirement. Several vendors can provide storage, but this storage is not compatible with the existing architecture and only EMC professional service personnel can provide the installation and advanced technical support for the EMC product. Therefore, due to licensing, warranty, and infrastructure compatibility requirements it would not be possible for another vendor to provide compatible services and similar hardware capable of meeting the SEC’s storage requirements. However, based on market research this storage equipment is available through numerous EMC resellers. Although there are several vendors that can provide storage, their storage is not compatible with the existing architecture and only EMC professional service personnel can provide the installation and advanced technical support for the EMC product. If other than EMC storage systems are purchased the system may not function properly, if at all, and EMC will not support or maintain the system. Failure of the system would inhibit the mission of the Office of Economic Analysis in their market research, Enforcement will not have the ability to process data for litigation, and systems supporting Enterprise applications will run out of storage space.
