- Description
- This requirement is to upgrade and replace the existing old Linux servers and Windows file servers agency wide with new HP servers as part of a rolling replacement. Large IT systems are built and certified by vendors as a functional design, and each system is unique. Once a discrete system is built based on a specific configuration, any changes to the core elements have to be planned carefully to make sure they are compatible with that configuration. Since the servers are part of a larger Enterprise system, the hardware and software compatibility is essential. The SEC production network is using HP-based servers for its critical business applications such as email spam filtering, Outlook, and Momentum. Due to licensing, warranty, and compatibility issues it would not be possible for another vendor to provide compatible servers capable of meeting the SEC’s requirements. Only the HP servers specified can be used to be fully compatible with the current configuration. However, HP has authorized resellers that this requirement could be competed amongst. Although there are several vendors that can provide servers, their hardware and software is not compatible with the existing architecture. If other than HP servers are purchased the system may not function properly, if at all, and would endanger the availability of SEC Mission critical applications such as Outlook, Momentum, the SEC.GOV public website, SharePoint applications, litigation efforts, and the user problem reporting system, ITSM.
