Description
This action modifies an existing contract to provide funding for ADOPT common infrastructure support. This contract provides the type of clinical trials support that will be necessary to incorporate new technologies for electronic data capture and verification. The Cancer Trials Support Unit (CTSU) is a service of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that provides clinicians across the United States access to cancer treatment trials. The project is funded and directed by the NCI Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) and operated by Westat, Inc. The objectives of the CTSU include: providing a wide choice of clinical trial options to the largest possible number of investigators; involving a larger number of treating institutions in the clinical trials process; increasing enrollment to cancer clinical trials; streamlining or eliminating redundant processes and procedures; and providing data management services for clinical trials. Rationale for using other than a fixed price: Uncertainties involved in contract performance do not permit costs to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed price contract. As such, a cost reimbursement type action is appropriate. The primary purpose of the project is to standardize and create common infrastructure to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the CTEP multi-center clinical trial networks, while simultaneously providing an opportunity to reduce clinical trial costs.
