- The National Assessment Governing Board has awarded a purchase order/contract to the Council of Chief State School Officers to provide continuing support for the Council of Chief State School Officers/National Assessment Governing Board Policy Task Force. The Governing Board has important congressional mandates to set policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and to take appropriate actions to improve the form, content, use, and reporting of NAEP assessment results. The Board also has responsibility to plan and execute the initial public release of NAEP Report Cards. One key component for informing the Board's work is through expanded outreach services to targeted audiences across the nation. As increased attention is drawn to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, it is important to expand involvement of state policymakers in providing information and input to the Governing Board on various policy initiatives. The National Assessment Governing Board established a Policy Task Force in 2007 to convene key state education agency staff to discuss current issues and explore outreach options. The goal of this project is to increase state input and feedback to inform the Governing Board's policy setting work. The Task Force is continuing to provide support in a variety of areas to include issues related to improving NAEP Report Cards, the NAEP schedule of assessments, the reading trendline, testing and reporting on students with disabilities and English language learners, planning for 2009 NAEP reports, the 12th grade NAEP state-level pilot for 2009, 12th grade preparedness issues, and other topics. Input from the Task Force has contributed significantly to Board policy discussions and actions related to all of the topics addressed. The period of performance is 12 months.
