- Description
- The Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Acquisition and Logistics, Technology Acquisition Center awarded a twelve-month Firm-Fixed-Price contract to Vanderbilt University through its Vanderbilt Center for Better Health (VCBH), 3401 West End Avenue, Suite 290, Nashville, TN 37203-6866 to conduct Strategic Innovation Challenge Design Workshops addressing two critical strategic healthcare information technology (HIT) innovation topics: Chemotherapy Ordering and Point of Care Support of Clinical Decision Making/Just-In-Time Provide Education. These workshops are part of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Innovation Program which provides field innovators with a mechanism to develop solutions to strategically targeted VHA business opportunities by obtaining specialized innovation support services to assist VHA in innovative IT design, development, and use, and to accelerate solutions in a manner and time frame that cannot be achieved through traditional meetings or conference programs. During contractor conducted and facilitated workshop sessions which use accelerated, concentrated, visioning and visualization, and fact based critical thought function design methods tangible outputs are provided, which can then be used by VHA to initiate collaborative IT development. In order to meet Innovation Program goals, these workshops must be conducted within 60 days of contract award in early November 2009. This contract was entered into pursuant to 41 U.S.C. 253(c) (1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1, "Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements". VCBH is the only organization that possesses both the trained facilitators in the patented methodologies and facilities designed to enhance and trigger creativity in the human brain and extract those thoughts into visual, workable concepts, along with access to the unique knowledge and skills of domain experts, as well readily available staff of experienced medical, health IT and informatics experts at Vanderbilt University Medical Center which is a world leader in biomedical informatics.
