- NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., will host the Second AnnualSmall Business Symposium and Awards Ceremony on November 16 and 17, 2009 at the MarriottBethesda North Hotel and in Bethesda, MD. JPL is managed for NASA by the CaliforniaInstitute of Technology in Pasadena. INTRO: The Symposium provides a forum for smallbusiness attendees to learn about NASA/JPL plans for future missions in Space and EarthScience, including associated programs, initiatives, and business and/or teamingopportunities. Both the Agency and the Laboratory are committed to doing business withsmall businesses and seek to expand their respective supplier base for future technicalrequirements. Additionally, attendees will learn about the skills, resources andtechnologies needed to achieve NASAs missions, programs and research. Networking withNASA, JPL and prime contractors will be the objective throughout the two-day event.Participation is open to industry, academia and domestic small businesses.PLENARY/BREAKOUT SESSIONS: Session topics are (1) Mission Directorates panel: SmallBusinesses Building a High-Tech Industrial Base for the Future; (2) Heads of Procurementpanel: How Small Businesses Impact the Acquisition Process; (3) NASA Mentor-ProtgProgram: Making a Difference; (4) Legislative Updates by the U.S. Small BusinessAdministration; (5) NASA Small Business Specialists Town Hall session; (6) Important ofJoint Counseling at NASA; and (7) Small Business Success Stories. SMALL BUSINESS AWARDSCEREMONY: The NASA Small Business Industry and Advocates Awards will be featured on thesecond day to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by NASA employees as well asindustry representatives in support of the agencys Small Business Program.
