The Project supports theFundamental Aeronautics Programs (FAP) strategy of developing systems levelmultidisciplinary capabilities for supersonic civilian and military applications. The Supersonics Project is a broad based effort designed to develop knowledge, capabilities and technologies that support all vehicles that fly in the supersonic speedregime. Key elements of the project include the development of systems concepts and thecompletion of systems studies. These studies are used to identify potential requirementsfor future supersonic aircraft; assessment of the effectiveness of the projects currenttechnology portfolio and the identification of new research and technology opportunities.Another key element of the Supersonics Project involves conducting systems levelexperimental validation activities which complement the current project investments toprovide proven capabilities that address the efficiency, environmental, and performancechallenges of supersonic aircraft.NASA Glenn Research Center intends to issue a contract entitled "Advanced Concept Studiesfor Supersonic Commercial Transport Aircraft Entering Service in the 2018-2020 Period toconduct systems level experimental validations in support of NASAs N+2 SupersonicEffort.
