- Description
- NASA/GSFC has a requirement for the continuation of the design and subsystem buildof the Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor (TSIS) Instrument and integration withthe National Polar orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) C1Mission. TSIS consists of two instruments: the Total Irradiance Monitor (TIM) and theSpectral Irradiance Monitor (SIM) and an integral pointing system. TSIS on the NPOESS C1Mission will continue the key climate measurements of Total Solar Irradiance and SpectralSolar Irradiance currently being measured by the TIM and SIM on the Solar Radiation andClimate Experiment mission. In order to fulfill this requirement, NASA/GSFC isutilizing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to provide for key elementsof the contract performance through approximately September 30, 2011. The performanceelements include providing project management of the TSIS instrument and its interfacewith the National Polar orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System C1spacecraft; provide systems engineering including interface definition, verification andtrade studies, systems analyses and trending for the TSIS instrument; providing a Safetyand Mission Assurance program; manufacture, assembly and build of the a) Total IrradianceMonitor sensor subsystem, b) Spectral Irradiance Monitor sensor subsystem, c)ThermalPointing System subsystem, d) Fine Sun Sensor subsystem,e) Microprocessor Unit subsystem, and f) Flight Harness subsystem; design and build the TSIS Flight Software; provide TSISMU Engineering Development Unit for interface testing.<P>The University of Colorado, Laboratory for Atmosphericand Space Physics is performingthis effort under the existing contract that was awarded on December 17, 2008, under thestatutory authority 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c)(1), only one responsible source.
