Description
The Women’s Bureau is seeking a contractor to work with the Boston Regional Office to provide 15 – 20 community college female students with mentoring, peer support, seminars, lab experience, and an advisor to assist them in the pursuit of further education and careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) for a one year period commencing before September 30, 2009 and concluding by September 29, 2010. The contractor will secure 15 - 20 participants for the Program who are currently enrolled in certificate or for-credit college STEM courses at community colleges in Connecticut. In addition, the contractor will select 5 female mentors who work and/or teach in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The contractor must be able to exhibit a collaborative relationship with one or more Connecticut Community Colleges in order to receive the contract. The contractor must also be able to document prior experience working with women in the STEM fields. Deliverables will include the mentoring of participants by professional women and female college students pursuing advanced degrees in STEM fields; peer support through both personal meetings and technology; hands-on STEM lab and workplace experiences; seminars outlining the career opportunities in STEM areas; and the services of a female case manager who can assist participants in resolving life challenges that can prevent completion of the program and/or continuation of studies. Award not expected to exceed $25,000
