Description
Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division China Lake, CA is requesting information concerning availability of 1kW or higher output fiber lasers that emit at 1.064 ?m with a line width of at < 3 GHz, polarization extinction ratio of at least 90:1, a Gaussian beam shape with a beam quality of <1.5, 1.2 preferred, and are modular in construction for a Navy R&D project. The expectation is to find a fiber laser that meets the required specification as an off-the shelf item, but minimal modifications to existing hardware will also be considered. The operation of the fiber laser will be located in a laboratory environment, thus requirements for cooling and power are to be within those found in that type of setting. Although the lasers will be in a laboratory environment, size and weight must be considerations for collocation of all of the procured fiber lasers and must be considered as part of the overall RFI for the total potential procurement. The potential procurement that could come from this request will cover up to three years and include a minimum of 6 fiber lasers, but could include up to a maximum of 30 fiber lasers with the required performance. There is the expectation that as time progresses, the technology will improve the performance of the individual fiber lasers and the Government has the expectation that it will receive the benefit of these improvements with each individual delivery of subsequent fiber lasers. Multiple kilowatt outputs of an individual fiber are anticipated during the period of performance of any contracting action resulting from this RFI. Responders are encouraged to provide their white papers to a limit of 10 pages, doubled-sided, with relevant examples of ongoing and previous contractual efforts with the Government and industry that support the desired capabilities requested. Additionally, further information/details may be requested based on initial white paper submittals. Industry is encouraged to respond with information not constrained by propriety data rights. However, if propriety data is included in your reply, please mark it appropriately. This request for information (RFI) is for planning purposes only and shall not be considered as a request for proposal (RFP) or as an obligation on the part of the Government to acquire any products or services. The Government does not plan to award a contract based on the responses from this RFI or otherwise pay for the information solicited. No entitlement to payment by the Government of direct for indirect costs incurred will arise as a result of contractor submission of responses to this RFI or the Government's use of such information. This RFI does not constitute a solicitation for proposals or the authority to enter into negotiations to award a contract. All information contained in this RFI is preliminary, as well as subject to modification, and is in no way binding on the Government. Only mail submittals will be accepted. NO Telefax or E-mail submissions. Submittals shall include soft copies of the requested information. Responses should be sent to:Commander, NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV China Lake, Code 254140D, Attn. Ms. Debra Zamarron, 429 E. Bowen Rd, M/S 4015China Lake, CA. 93555-6108. POC is Ms. Debra Zamarron, Phone (760) 939 9658 (office). Any information that the vendor considers proprietary should be clearly marked as such. Responses must be received no later than 3:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), 30 September 2009. Please use subject line: 1kW Fiber Lasers
