Description
Remove Porch from Building #9, North Chicago VA Medical Center3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago ILVA-69D-09-RA-0417 Clarification: 1. The specifications call for a 4ply coal tar BUR system. Theexisting exposed roofing membrane appears to be smooth surfaced modifiedbitumen with an aluminum roof coating. Can we install a smooth surfacedmodified bitumen roof assembly so as to be compatible with the existingexposed roof surface? YES 2.Line item #4 of the scope of work says to "remove 6' of roofingnear the brick wall the full length of the porch and to repair andinstall new roofing." Can we remove the entire roofing material andinstall a new EPDM or TPO roofing system so as to insure a betterproduct and lower cost? If you can do it cost effective, no EPDM, makeit a built up roof. 3.Line item #3 of the scope of work says to "remove the soffit, this item to be coordinated with the abatement contractor" and then atthe end of this line item says "all abatement to be completed byothers." Does the soffit contain asbestos materials? What portions ofthe soffit should be assumed to be removed as part of our contract andwhat portions shall be by the abatement contractor? There is noasbestos, its lead paint and the abatement contractor will remove thelead paint and the rest is yours. 4.Line item #3 of the scope of work says to "remove the soffit"however nowhere in the scope does it state that the soffit is to bereinstalled. Are we to include installation of a new soffit and if so,what material shall we bid? The soffit is to be replaced and you canreplace with like material or 4x8 sheet goods with one clear side. 5.Line item #5 of the scope of work says to "prime/finishpaint/caulk new wood and railings." The railings specified from J.G.Braun Company (550 Series) have a prefinished dark bronze finish. Arewe to assume that this shall remain prefinished or is it your intentionto field finish the railings? Prefinished is acceptable. 6.In Line item #5 it is stated that an "or approved equal" railingcan be used. Can we provide a proposal to supply and install afabricated steel railing that would be field finish painted matching thedimensions in the line item #5 descriptions? You can submit a proposalfor a fabricated steel railing with field finish painting matching alldimensions in item # 5. 7.The railings on the steps- the bottom of the railings appear tosit in a footing with the sidewalk topping covering the top of thefooting. The topping has cracked. Do you want this re-poured prior tothe new railing installation? Core the concrete and set the Railings. 8.What is the extent of the concrete repairs that are to be made? The end drains that are removed will need to be filled and leveled, thestairs will need to be repaired and small deck repairs.9.Do you want all the bead board on the underside of the porchreplaced or just the decayed areas patched? The entire underside will bereplaced. 10.Do you want all the trim at the brick/ceiling intersectionreplaced? YES 11.Are the lintels and window/door frames to be painted? YES 12.It states in the scope of work to provide 2-70 watt highpressure sodium wall pack light fixtures. We were told to replace the 5existing fixtures with high pressure sodium on a photoelectric cell. Isthis correct? Yes this is correct. 13.Due to the fact the porch is not being removed, is therequirement of a temporary construction fence necessary? No not if youbarricade the entrance to the facility so no patience can get on theporch.
