Description

The Office of Care Coordination Services under the direction of Patient Care Services put together a task group to implement a national teledermatology program in VHA. The scope of this project is to provide teledermatology services through telehealth support. Currently there is a shortage of dermatologists in the VA and the vision is to capture the images of the patient and then transmit them to remotely located dermatologists for interpretation. A new clinical service has been established through use of VistA Imaging and existing Computerized Record System (CPRS) functionality. In order to provide this new capability, enhancements to existing VistA Imaging software is required. At present, this can only be performed using commercially available DICOM image acquisition software. The VistA Imaging Project previously recommended and tested the DicomPush software, manufactured by Visual-Med, to acquire the dermatology images and send them to VistA. In the future the VistA Imaging Capture Client will be modified to acquire images for inter-facility and use the teleReader capability. The VA is seeking to acquire 11 copies of the DicomPush software, manufactured by VisualMed. The combined synopsis/solicitation may be used by any vendor to provide quotes in accordance with the requirements listed.
